Royal Assent . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Bill Mr. Masyk BILL DENTAL CARE REVIEW COMMITTEE ACT (Assented to , 2003) HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, enacts as follows:

Interpretation In this Act, “Committee” means the Select Special Committee established under

section 2. Select Special Committee 2(1) In the first session of the Legislative Assembly following the coming into force of this Act, the Government shall introduce a resolution in the Assembly which, if passed, would establish a select special committee of the Assembly called the “Select Special Dental Care Review Committee” consisting of members of the Assembly.

(2) The membership of the Committee shall include members of the Assembly who are not members of the governing party, but if there is (

a) an insufficient number of non-government members to fill the positions on the Committee, or (

b) an insufficient number of non-government members who are willing to fill the positions on the Committee, the resulting vacant positions on the Committee may be filled by members of the Assembly who are members of the governing party. 1 Functions of committee 3(1) The functions of the Committee are (

a) to review the current state of dental care in Alberta with particular emphasis on (

i) accessibility for low income individuals, (ii) the feasibility of a fee schedule, and (iii) the quality of care; (

b) to make recommendations to the Assembly.

(2) In performing its duties under subsection (1), the Committee may (

a) consult with the public in Alberta in any matter it chooses, and (

b) establish subcommittees consisting of members of the Committee and other individuals. Report 4(1) The Committee must prepare a report to the Assembly regarding the matters outlined in

section no later than year after the Committee is established under

section 2.

(2) The chair of the Committee shall lay a copy of the report prepared pursuant to subsection (1) before the Assembly if it is sitting or, if it is not then sitting, within days after the commencement of the next sitting.
